Question 982: To ask the Minister for Health the approximate number of persons who possess neither a medical card nor private medical insurance; the approximate number of medical card holders who are also in possession of private medical insurance; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The number of individuals covered by a medical card at the end of October 2011 was 1,694,658. As of the end of September 2011, the number of people who had private health insurance is 2,173,418. Some individuals may hold a medical card and private health insurance. The Department does not hold records of the additional data sought by the Deputy.
