It is open to any person or household to apply to a housing authority for an assessment of their housing need. Decisions on the eligibility of specific persons for social housing support and the allocation of that support are a matter solely for the housing authority concerned and I have no function in specific cases. My Department has recently issued revised guidance to housing authorities regarding access to social housing support for non-Irish nationals. This guidance is in Circular Housing 47/2011 of 7 December 2011, a copy of which is available in the Oireachtas Library.
