Question 406: To ask the Minister for Social Protection the total amount of overpayments due to her Department at the end of 2011; the total repayments made in the year 2011; the corresponding figures for each of the past five years; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [1016/12]

The Department is subject to annual audit by the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General. As part of this audit, the level of annual overpayments and recoveries is examined.

Set out below are relevant statistics for the 5 year period 2006 – 2010. As the 2011 Comptroller and Auditor General's audit is currently underway, the Department is not yet in a position to provide data on overpayment and recovery levels for last year as these figures form part of the statutory accounts of the Department which are currently being audited.
