Question 137: To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if it is mandatory for a third level student to pay full tuition fees when a student changes course before completion of the original course; if there is a consistent approach taken by all third level institutions in relation to such costs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The position is that under my Department's Free Fees Scheme, students who have previously pursued but have not completed a course of third level study and subsequently resume third level studies are not eligible for free fees for the equivalent period of time spent on the first course of study.
As the Deputy may be aware it is the third level institution concerned that determines a student's eligibility for free fees in line with the terms and conditions of the scheme.
