Question 182: To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality in view of the proposed closure of Dalkey Garda station, Dublin, if he or the Garda Commissioner will give a commitment that the same number of gardaí will be deployed to the sub-district of Dun Laoghaire sub-division thus ensuring there is no net loss of gardaí to the district and that the residents in the district can continue to enjoy the same level of policing; and if he will make a statement on the matter. In making his recommendations on the closure of the Garda stations, the Garda Commissioner concluded that Garda resources could be better deployed and more effectively used on the frontline if these particular stations no longer had to be staffed and maintained.

The Garda Commissioner has reiterated the commitment of An Garda Síochána to providing a professional and effective service to the community. In the coming months local Garda management, in places where a station is going to close, will consult with local communities to determine how best to continue to deliver a policing service in their area. Specifically in relation to Dalkey Garda Station, I have been informed by the Commissioner that Garda personnel allocated to Dalkey Garda station will remain within the Dun Laoghaire District.
