Question 295: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government the process to be followed by local authorities in the sale of a local authority owned asset (details supplied) that is to be sold on the open market, sale by tender or to invite expressions of interest by placing an advertisement in a local paper only. The manner in which a local authority disposes of assets is, in the first instance, a matter for the local authority itself.
I understand that, in the case referred to in the question, the local authority concerned requested, via their website, expressions of interest for the sale or lease of the property and that the council is currently examining expressions of interest received.
Any proposal to sell council land or property must be approved by the elected members under Section 183 of the Local Government Act 2001.
