Question 283: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government his plans to legislate for a tightening of the rules for vehicles to be declared off the road for the purposes of motor tax; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [39836/11]

I am concerned at the high level of off-the-road declarations being made and I am aware that the current procedures governing the making of such declarations are open to potential abuse. The General Scheme of a Bill to tighten the procedures is at an advanced stage of preparation in my Department and will be brought forward as soon as possible.
