Question 295: To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality the position regarding illegal parking at a location (details supplied) in Dublin 13; the number of fixed penalty notices issued in 2010 and to date in 2011 regarding illegal parking; the number of fines that have been paid to date; the number of fines that have yet to be paid; and if this location will receive greater attention in the run up to Christmas. I am informed by the Garda authorities that the location referred to is within Coolock Garda Sub-District. Local Garda management is not aware of ongoing difficulties of the nature referred to by the Deputy being experienced by residents in the area. An Garda Síochána pays particular attention to the area, given its proximity to local amenities, and will continue to do so over the Christmas period. Any breaches of the criminal law, including the Road Traffic Acts, will be dealt with appropriately. A member of the local Community Policing Unit is specifically assigned to the area and regularly meets local residents. Local Garda management closely monitors and keeps under review patrols and other operational strategies in place, in conjunction with crime trends and policing needs of the communities in the area, to ensure optimum use is made of Garda resources and the best possible Garda service is provided to the public. An Garda Síochána is not in a position to provide information on the number of fixed charge notices issued in relation to parking at the location referred to and the number in respect of which charges have and have not been paid without a disproportionate use of resources.
