Question 261: To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the standing committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution and a recommendation on the Declaration of Principles on Equality and the Activities of the Council of Europe at its meeting in Edinburgh, welcoming and endorsing the declaration which calls on member states to take into account the principles contained in the declaration when adopting equality and non-discrimination legislation and policies. My Department has a Liaison Officer in the Permanent Representation in Strasbourg, whose functions include ensuring that my Department and I are aware of all pertinent developments. I understand that the next step is that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe recommendation is referred to the Committee of Ministers' Deputies in Strasbourg for consideration.
