Question 224: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government his views on the condition of the country's roads in particular rural country roads that are being neglected by local authorities; his plans to ensure that these roads are not further neglected; his further views that the long term neglect of these roads will lead to increased cost to him and local authorities and have a devastating effect on local infrastructure and business; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under the Roads Act 1993 the improvement and maintenance of regional and local roads is a matter for the relevant local authority and the Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport. I have no function in this matter.
