Question 173: To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality the plans he has to introduce regulations to increase the monetary jurisdiction of the Circuit Court in order to assist in reducing legal fees and reducing pressure on the High Court; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy will be aware, the current civil jurisdictional limits were set in 1991 at €38,092 and €6,384 for the Circuit and District Courts respectively. Although Sections 13 and 14 of the Courts and Court Officers Act 2002 provided for substantial increases in these limits, these were never commenced by previous Governments. This matter is under review at present in my Department.
