Question 34: To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport about the discussions he has had with the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and his counterpart in the Northern Ireland Assembly regarding the potential re-opening of the Ulster canal between Clones and Enniskillen as a major tourist attraction in the Border area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As the Deputy may be aware, the Ulster Canal project is being progressed by Waterways Ireland, which is the responsibility of my colleague, the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan T.D. He is liaising with his Northern Ireland counterpart, the Minister for Culture, Arts and Leisure on this project. I have had no role in the development of the project to date but I am open to having the implications for tourism development considered at the appropriate time.
