The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) was established by the Health Act 2007 and its investigative role is set out in Section 9 of that Act. e Programme for Government contains a commitment to expand HIQA's inspection role into the area of residential services for people with disabilities along with a commitment to establish a Patient Safety Authority which will incorporate HIQA. Discussions are ongoing between my Department and HIQA to progress these commitments.
