Question 383: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if he will provide a list of the commercial semi-State companies under his remit whose chief executives have agreed to take a voluntary salary cut to bring them within the €250,000 salary cap announced by the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The salaries of the CEOs of three of commercial semi-State companies under my Department's remit fall below the €250,000 salary cap. There has been no communication to date from Coillte on this matter. ^^ Harbours and Piers ^^

The pier at Coolaghy, Clifden is owned by Galway County Council and the responsibility for its repair and maintenance lies with the local authority in the first instance. Earlier this year, however, my Department invited coastal local authorities to submit applications in respect of priority harbour development projects for inclusion in its 2011 Fishery Harbour and Coastal Infrastructure Development Programme. My Department received an application from Galway County Council for funding for a total of 3 projects, of which Coolaghy pier was identified as the 3rd project in order of priority.

Having regard to its prioritisation and the fact that the required planning permission was not in place, the project was not selected for funding by the Evaluation Committee. Any application for funding in future years by Galway County Council will be given consideration subject to available exchequer funding and overall national priorities.
