Question 358: To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality the position regarding the possible merger of the National Disability Authority and the Equality Authority, which was recently recommended by a collection of rights bodies to his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Following consideration of the relative merits of mergers involving the two bodies named, along with the Irish Human Rights Commission and the Equality Tribunal, the Government recently decided that the Human Rights and Equality agendas would best be enhanced by merging the Equality Authority and the Irish Human Rights Commission. I anticipate that the new Human Rights and Equality Commission will be in place early next year.
