Question 198: To ask the Minister for Education and Skills when the promised FÁS course to prepare workers for water metering installation will commence in view of the fact that this is likely to provide work for some of the many unemployed construction workers but has been postponed on several occasions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I understand that FÁS does not envisage a need in the short-term to run courses in water meter installation.
FÁS considers that there are currently many unemployed, underemployed and employed qualified plumbers with the necessary skills to install water meters.
If a shortage of these skills arises in the future, FÁS will, of course, re-consider investing resources into the provision of such courses.
