Question 84: To ask the Taoiseach his plans to commemorate the centenary of 1916 and will he consider appointing an independent commission to consider a new national anthem and review national emblems such as those worn by the gardaí, the Defence Forces, the Fire Service, the Civil Defence and our offices of State. A commemorative programme is being prepared to mark the centenary of 1916. I envisage that a draft framework of events will be submitted to Government for consideration in early 2012. There are no plans to appoint an Independent Commission to consider a new national anthem and review national emblems such as those worn by the Garda Síochána, the Defence Forces, the Fire Service, the Civil Defence and our Offices of State.
