The most recent Live Register data published by the Central Statistics Office relates to the end of August, when most schools were still closed for the summer break. The information requested by the Deputy is set out in the tabular statement below, which shows that there were 13,490 teachers on the Live Register at the end of August, comprising just under 3% of the Live Register. The breakdown of same between primary and post primary teachers is not available.

The number of teachers on the Live Register in July was at broadly similar levels. For comparison purposes, the equivalent data in respect of the end of May is given in a separate table below. This shows that there were 8,222 teachers on the Live Register at that time, comprising just under 2% of the Live Register.
