Question 246: To ask the Minister for Social Protection the amount spent by her paying all doctors, including those in the employ of the Health Service Executive, and general practitioners for the provision of medical certificates for social welfare applications in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 respectively; if she will divide the total figure into those paid to public sector doctors and general practitioners respectively, on an annual basis; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The amounts paid to medical practitioners in respect of medical certificates and reports required to support claims for illness benefit and other medical-related payments made by the Department are as follows: 2007 €26.8M 2008 €30.4M 2009 €30.3M 2010 €28.7M It is not possible to distinguish between payments made to general practitioners and payments made to other medical practitioners.
