The matter raised is an operational one for Tourism Ireland Limited, in the first instance, as the body responsible for promoting the island of Ireland as a tourist destination overseas. I have referred the Deputy's Question to Tourism Ireland for direct reply. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within ten working days.
I would also draw attention to the Visa Waiver Scheme introduced by my colleague Minister for Justice and Equality, Alan Shatter TD, which allows visitors who have entered the UK on a UK general visa to be treated as if they have a visa for the purpose of visiting Ireland. This applies to nationals of 16 countries which currently need short stay tourist visas to enter Ireland for and includes the key Asian markets of India and the People's Republic of China.
