Question 175: To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the proposals he has to provide funding for the further development of e-learning in schools and the provision of high quality broadband connectivity in schools, in view of the fact that the Department Communications, Energy and Natural Resources has made a provision of €10 million in its 2011 Estimates to develop high speed broadband infrastructure for schools; his plans to develop a cross-departmental strategy to enhance and support this initiative; and if he will make a statement on the matter. No decision has been made in relation to the next phase of providing 100Mbps to schools. Any decision to extend the programme will be made having regard to the current budgetary constraints and other priorities of my Department. A pedagogical review of the pilot project is currently being prepared, the outcome of which will also inform future plans in this area.
