Question 272: To ask the Minister for Defence the consequences for a Civil Defence building (details supplied) arising from his decision to abolish the board of the Civil Defence and reverse the Civil Defence Act 2002; the knock on effect this move will have on the workforce; the future of this building; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Office of Public Works has a long term lease on the building in question and the Government's plans to abolish the Civil Defence Board, and return its functions to the Department of Defence, will not affect the existing lease arrangements. Civil Defence will continue to operate from Roscrea but will do so as a Branch of the Department of Defence. The staff are civil servants in the Civil Service of the State and this will not change as a result of the Government's proposals.
