Question 367: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, further to Parliamentary Question No. 248 of 10 May 2011, in which he confirmed that his Department is providing €2 million to Sligo Borough Council in respect of proposals for the regeneration of the eastern quadrant of Sligo, if he is in a position to indicate the boundaries of the eastern quadrant of Sligo; and if not, the criteria his Department will use when approving funding of €500,000 of the said funding for the improvement of O'Connell Street, County Sligo. My predecessor, the Minister of State with responsibility for housing, wrote to the County Manager on 8 March, 2011 to advise that €2 million had been approved in respect of a range of measures to be advanced under the regeneration project for Sligo. It will be a matter for Sligo Borough Council, in the context of the regeneration master-planning process, to determine the overall scope and focus of the project, including the areas to be included for regeneration.

A proposal is awaited from Sligo Borough Council in respect of a range of works to facilitate the pedestrianisation of O'Connell Street. The proposal for the town's main street will be evaluated on the basis of its contribution to supporting the overall objectives of the regeneration project and how it can address issues such as creating linkages with the Cranmore estate and adjacent areas as well as issues such as infrastructure deficit generally, accessibility and social exclusion resulting from unemployment and economic disadvantage.

Question 368: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government the expenditure of regeneration funding for the Cranmore and Eastern Quadrant project in Sligo on project staff salaries and wages, project office overheads, consultant fees, funding for the employment of a development worker and information officer by the Cranmore Community co-operative, the Cranmore Mounds project and the community warden scheme in each of the years 2008, 2009 and 2010.
