Question 347: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government if he has notified local authorities the amount that they will be allocated through the Local Government Fund for 2012; if not, when he plans to make that information available to local authorities; the amounts to be awarded out to all local authorities under the Local Government Fund; the way the Census 2011 Preliminary Report has impacted or will impact on the allocations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I assume the Question refers to General Purpose Grants paid to local authorities out of the Local Government Fund. The two principle sources of revenue for the Fund are the full proceeds of motor tax and an Exchequer contribution. In line with previous years, it would be my intention to inform local authorities of their 2012 General Purpose Grant allocations in late 2011 following Budget 2012.

In relation to the basis for the 2012 allocations, this will be determined in line with the level of funding available, and it will be my objective to ensure that General Purpose Grant funding continues to make a significant contribution towards enabling local authorities to provide a reasonable level of services to the public.
