Question 159: To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if he will amend the rules on third level grant applications to allow those who have been resident here for two out of the last four years instead of three of the previous five years, as is currently the case, to be eligible for this grant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I have no plans to change the residency requirements under the student grant scheme, the main purpose of which is to ensure that persons applying for grants will have more established links with and integration in the State. It is envisaged that the residency requirements as set will, in many instances, provide greater flexibility for students who may be returning from abroad.
