Question 110: To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if his attention has been drawn to the current classroom overcrowding problem at a school (details supplied) in County Donegal; the reason this school has not to date been provided with the necessary funds for a extension and/or refurbishment; when such funds will be provided; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I can confirm that the school to which the Deputy refers applied for significant capital funding for the provision of an extension and refurbishment of its existing accommodation. As this is a major capital project, further information has been sought from the school to allow the application to be assessed and considered in the context of my Department's Building and Modernisation Programme having regard to competing demands on the available capital budget. In the meantime, funding was approved in February last for the provision of a resource room which represented the immediate deficit of accommodation at the school. No funding has been drawn down by the school to date in respect of this grant.
