The detailed allocation of Garda resources, including transport, is a matter for the Garda Commissioner to decide in accordance with his identified operational requirements and priorities. At Divisional level responsibility for the efficient deployment of Garda vehicles is a matter for the Divisional Officer who takes account of all the requirements involved, including factors such as population and crime figures. I am informed by the Garda authorities that the specific information sought by the Deputy is not readily available and could only be provided through the use of a substantial amount of resources. At the same time, however, they have also indicated that every effort is being made, and will continue to be made, to ensure the most efficient and effective deployment of Garda vehicles.
