Question 203: To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the total amount paid to persons who supervised the leaving certificate and junior certificate examinations in each of the years 2009, 2010 and 2011; the total number of persons who were engaged to provide this service each year; if he will provide a breakdown in the rates of pay which applied to persons charged with supervision services each year separately in tabular form; if these rates varied according to one's experience and or occupation; the process involved in recruiting persons to these positions; if training on procedural matters is provided prior to the examinations taking place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The State Examinations Commission has statutory responsibility for operational matters relating to the certificate examinations including organising the holding of examinations, determining procedures in places where examinations are conducted including the supervision of examinations and making arrangements for the marking of work presented for examination. Question 204: To ask the Minister for Education and Skills the total amount spent on payments to persons responsible for marking leaving certificate and junior certificate papers in 2009 and 2010 separately; the total number of persons engaged to provide this service each year; the average number of papers marked by each person per year; the amount of persons each year who were assigned both leaving certificate and junior certificate papers to mark, in tabular form; the qualification criteria necessary to obtain such a role; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
