The school to which the Deputy refers applied for a Summer Works Scheme grant in 2011 to carry out roof works. Due to the scale of demand for funding under the scheme, it was not possible to fund all applications. The school was advised accordingly.

In relation to the Deputy's reference to funding for emergency works, it is open to the school concerned to submit an application for such funding under my Department's Emergency Works Scheme. The purpose of this Scheme is solely for unforeseen emergencies or to provide funding to facilitate inclusion and access for special needs pupils. An emergency is deemed to be a situation which poses an immediate risk to health, life, property or the environment which is sudden, unforeseen and requires immediate action and in the case of a school if not corrected would prevent the school or part thereof from opening. Details of the Scheme concerned, together with an application form for grant assistance, can be accessed on the Department's website at www.education.ie.
