Question 506: To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality if cutbacks in the medical service have had any effect on the ability of An Garda Síochána to detain, arrest or charge persons suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol of drugs; if his attention has been drawn to any cases in which the absence of a medical professional to test a suspect has meant that a suspect had to be released without charge; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am informed by the Garda authorities that they are not aware of any difficulties in the processing of persons arrested on suspicion of drink driving offences. I am further informed that there have been no incidents where, due to the absence of a medical professional to test an individual, a suspect had to be released without charge.
