Question 325: To ask the Minister for the Environment; Community and Local Government his policy in relation to, or directives issued to, local authorities regarding to overtime for their workers up to grade 6 level; if it involves workers having to work hours free prior to being paid time and a quarter, time and a half or double time; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under section 159 of the Local Government Act 2001, each County and City Manager is responsible for staffing and organisational arrangements necessary for carrying out the functions of the local authorities for which he or she is responsible. Accordingly, it is a matter for each local authority to make appropriate arrangements, in terms of overtime, in accordance with national agreements dealing with remuneration and legislation dealing with working hours.
