Question 40: To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality in view of the fact that there are in the region of 20 Garda superintendent positions vacant in the State, including a vacancy in the Tramore Garda district, Waterford, his plans to fill these positions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The allocation of resources, including personnel, is a matter for the Garda Commissioner and his senior management team. The strength of An Garda Síochána and the allocation of those resources is continually kept under review by the Garda Commissioner and where necessary, derogations from the moratorium on recruitment and promotions in the Public Service can be sought in exceptional circumstances from the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform.
