Question 328: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food the reason the Irish seafood development operational programme does not allow the Irish seafood processing sector to draw down funding from Axis 2 of the European Fisheries Fund, which provides for measures in support of aquaculture, inland fishing, processing and marketing of fishery and aquaculture products. Financial support for the development of the seafood processing sector in accordance with Axis 2 of the European Fisheries Fund is presently provided under the Exchequer funded Irish Seafood National Programme 2007-2013. I am examining the feasibility of having this Programme transferred to the EU co-funded Seafood Development Operational Programme 2007-2013, in the context of recommendations made in the recently completed interim evaluation of the Programme. Any changes to the Programme will require the approval of the European Commission and the Monitoring Committee for the co-funded Programme.
