Question 50: To ask the Minister for Finance, in view of the fact that copyright protection is due to run out on Amhrán na bhFiann in 2012, his plans for protecting the national anthem; and if he has given consideration to the setting up of a cross-party working group to introduce legislation protecting the national anthem from being tampered with, replaced or used for commercial purposes. Copyright protection in relation to the National Anthem will run out in December 2012. The main purpose of ownership by the State of the copyright to the original version of the National Anthem was to ensure that it was freely available for general use. This situation will remain unchanged on the expiry of the copyright.
