One of the key functions of the Road Safety Authority (RSA) is the undertaking of accident and road safety research in order to develop measures and recommendations to improve road safety. The conducting of surveys on speed and seatbelt wearing on Irish roads forms part of such research. Accordingly, I have referred the question to the RSA for direct reply. I would ask the Deputy to contact my office if a reply is not received within ten days. Given what I have just outlined, I am not in a position to respond further.
