Question 295: To ask the Minister for Health and Children if he will consider a request for funding from Western Alzheimers in view of the fact that a previous parliamentary question was referred to the Health Service Executive and that the HSE in its reply said it was its understanding that the request was made to the Department of Finance; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I understand that the matter raised by the Deputy relates to a request for funding to assist towards overall financial pressures at the Western Alzheimers organisation. The Deputy will appreciate, as indicated previously, that the Health Service Executive has operational responsibility for the planning and delivery of services at national and local level, including the question of grant-aid in this type of case. While the original approach by the organisation was directed to the Department of Finance, the appropriate course of action, given the nature of the request, is for Western Alzheimers to pursue the specific issue directly with the HSE.
