Question 313: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if, in the week in which international attention is drawn to the Irish National Stud by virtue of the visit of Queen Elizabeth II, he is supportive of the stud being retained in State ownership; if, accordingly, he will reject the proposals in the McCarthy report to dispose of this valuable State asset; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I appreciate the importance of the role of the Irish National Stud Company Ltd. as the flagship of the thoroughbred industry. The recommendations of the Review Group on State Assets and Liabilities will be considered by the Government and decisions regarding future action will be taken.
