I can inform the Deputy that parental leave is available to a parent if they are the natural parent, the adoptive parent, the adopting parent or acting in loco parentisto the child. It is not my function as Minister to interpret the law in particular cases. I suggest the person concerned could consult with the Equality Authority, the National Employment Rights Authority or their own legal adviser.
