Question 162: To ask the Minister for Justice and Equality the length of time for the advanced driving course, method of entry course and the public order unit training course for the Garda Síochána; his plans to provide additional resources to reduce waiting list delays; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am informed by the Garda authorities that a five stage Competency Based Driving (CBD) Programme has been developed in An Garda Síochána and this is in the process of being rolled out at present. CBD Level 4 (Advanced Driving) training is four weeks in duration and there is no waiting list for these courses. Method of Entry training is five days in duration. The courses are delivered on demand and are run on a monthly basis (where possible) to cater for applications. In order to ensure that there is always a cohort of members trained in each Division, candidates are selected on a geographical (Divisional) basis. Public Order Unit Training is six days in duration and courses are delivered at Divisional level.

I am further informed that apart from the formulated lists associated with the general planning and administration of courses, no known major issues exist as regards waiting lists for courses.
