My Department has received representations in relation to the provision of a new primary school building in the Co Cork area to which the Deputy refers.

A major capital application has been made to the Department for the provision of a new school building for the proposed school. In accordance with the published criteria for large scale building projects, the project for this school has been assigned a Band 1.4 rating. The progression of all large scale building projects will be considered in the context of my Department's School Building and Modernisation Programme. Information in respect of the current school building programme along with all assessed applications for major capital works, including this project, is available on my Department's website at www.education.ie.

As the Deputy is aware, the Forward Planning Section of my Department is continuing its analysis of all areas in the country in order to determine the level of additional school provision which will be required at both primary and post primary level up to 2017. Overall primary requirements in the area referred to by the Deputy will also be fully considered in this context. However, in light of current competing demands on the Department's capital budget, it is not possible to give an indicative timeframe for the progression of a project for the school in question at this time.
