I wish to advise the Deputy, that under the National Tourism Development Authority Act 2003, Fáilte Ireland has the devolved function to encourage, promote and support the development and marketing of tourist facilities and services within the State. In this context, Fáilte Ireland operates the Tourism Capital Investment Programme, which provides support for capital investment in tourism infrastructure, visitor attractions and visitor activities including walking routes for tourists. To date, walking routes have primarily been developed with the assistance of local authorities. Organisations interested in developing walking routes for tourists should in the first instance contact Fáilte Ireland at 01-8847700 or on the web at http://www.failteireland.ie/Business-Supports/Grants-and-Tax-Incentives/Capital-Grants.
