I am informed by Waterways Ireland that dredging recently took place on the stretch of the Grand Canal from Portobello to Baggot Street. Prior to the commencement of this work, this stretch was dried out, after first removing and relocating fish stocks. Inland Fisheries Ireland is contracted to stock the canals with fish on behalf of Waterways Ireland. It is proposed to re-stock this area in due course. However, this first requires the natural habitat to regenerate and, accordingly, I understand that a specific timescale has not yet been established.
