Question 52: To ask the Minister for Finance, further to Parliamentary Question No. 133 of 12 April 2011, if he will further clarify the situation regarding liability for the universal social charge for persons who hold a medical card on the basis of medical circumstances rather than personal income; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The position is that individuals who hold a full medical card are not liable to the top rate of Universal Social Charge. These conditions apply regardless of whether the medical card is awarded on the basis of medical circumstances or on the basis of personal income. The criteria used in awarding full medical cards are a matter for the Minister for Health and Children.
