Question 108: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the allocation Galway city received in 2010 for the three housing repair grant schemes administered by Galway City Council that is the housing adaptation grant, mobility aids grant and housing aid for older people; the total allocation for Galway City Council and Galway County Council; the amount each council spent in allocating housing grants during 2010 and the amount, if any, returned to his Department at the end of the year. The Housing Adaptation Grant Schemes for Older People and People with a Disability are funded by 80% recoupment available from my Department together with a 20% contribution from the resources of the local authority. Record Exchequer allocations totalling almost €80m were notified to local authorities under the schemes on 5 March 2010, giving a combined allocation of almost €100m. It is a matter for each local authority to decide on the specific level of funding to be directed to each of the various grant measures from within the allocations notified to them by my Department and to manage the operation of the schemes.

Details of the Exchequer allocations and recoupments to Galway County Council and Galway City Council for 2010 are set out in the following table:
