Question 249: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Health and Children if she will list all appointments made by her between 14 January 2011 and 25 January 2011, inclusive, to State boards, agencies, quangos, bodies, authorities and other bodies within the aegis of her Department; the persons appointed in each such case; their professional or personal qualifications which recommended them for the appointment in each case; the remuneration associated with the position; the selection process employed; if it was a new appointment or a re-appointment; in the cases of reappointments, when the person was first appointed to the body; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Two appointments were made between 14 January 2011 and 25 January 2011. Both were new appointments.

Dr. John McAdoo was appointed as an ordinary member of the Medical Council on the nomination of University College Cork (UCC) in accordance with the provisions of the Medical Practitioners Act 2007. Dr. McAdoo is Director of the ASSET Centre in UCC. Ordinary members of the Medical Council are entitled to an annual fee of €7,695. This is subject to the "one person one salary" (OPOS) principle which provides that as a general rule public servants should not receive additional remuneration for undertaking other duties in the public service.

Ms Joan Ryan was appointed as an ordinary member of the Board of the National Treatment Purchase Fund. Ordinary members of the Board of the National Treatment Purchase Fund are entitled to an annual fee of €7,000 which is also subject to the OPOS principle. Ms Ryan was appointed by the Minister to represent the public interest.
