The total mileage payments made in the years 2007 to 2010 in respect of staff in my Department are as follows: 2010 - € 1,064,270 2009 - € 1,369,760 2008 - € 1,752,690 2007 - € 1,798,180 The mileage expenditure listed for each year relates to the mileage costs of the administrative staff of the Department and includes the mileage costs associated with the Inspectorate and the National Educational Psychological Service.

Question 172: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Skills if the Ministers of State in her Department have drivers; the salary provided to each driver annually since 2007; the expenses provided to the Ministers of State for use of their car or mileage annually since 2007; the familial relationship between the Minister and the driver if any; and if she will make a statement on the matter. My Department employs two civilian drivers to assist the Minister of State at my Department, Mr. Sean Haughey T.D., in carrying out his official duties. In accordance with Department of Finance guidelines they are engaged on a week on week off basis and are on a single point pay scale which is currently at a rate of €631.75 per week. There is no familial relationship between the Minister and his drivers. The information requested by the Deputy in relation to the salaries provided to the drivers and the expenses provided to the Minister of State for the use of his car since 2007 is given on the tables.
