I propose to take Questions Nos. 487 and 488 together.

I assume that the Deputy is referring to advertising campaigns carried out for particular promotional purposes, rather than cases where advertising was used in a standard way to draw the attention of the public to grant or sponsorship schemes. One such campaign was carried out by the Office of the Minister for Drugs, which is a cross-Departmental office located in my Department. The campaign, which was rolled out in 2010 in conjunction with the Drugs Task Forces, aimed to increase awareness and use of the confidential "dial to stop drugs" phone service, as part of the Government's response to increased intimidation in local communities. The total cost of the campaign was €178,016. This included the cost of national radio advertising (€40,000); on-line advertising (€10,000); printed material and Local Task Force initiatives, including delivery of leaflets, etc (€53,206); and local radio advertising (€37,500). The cost of planning & PR services, phone line rental, call centre services for the public, etc, amounted to €37,310.

With regard to State bodies/agencies funded from my Department's Vote Group, I am advised that two advertising campaigns were carried out by the Equality Authority in 2010. Relevant details are set out in the following table.

Name and purpose of campaignTotal costAdvertising media and costConsultancy or production costs
To promote the Say No to Ageism Campaign€10,713Outdoor advertising - €7,025€3,688
To promote the Employment Rights Campaign€54,793Advertising in publications - €9,669Outdoor advertising - €25,688Advertising on-line - €7,276€12,160
