The Mitchel's Regeneration Masterplan, which was completed in 2008, sets out a multi-annual programme of regeneration for the Mitchel's Crescent area of Tralee. In line with my Department's policy on regeneration, the Masterplan addresses not just physical improvements involving demolition, construction and refurbishment of the estate but also seeks to address social isolation and educational and economic disadvantage in the area. My Department continues to support this ambitious project as an integral part of the national regeneration programme. To that end, approximately €3.7 million was recouped to Tralee Town Council in funding for regeneration initiatives in 2010. My Department will continue to provide necessary capital funding in 2011 to support ongoing social regeneration in Tralee and the development of a number of projects, including a residential development of 18 units at Mitchel's Crescent and the refurbishment of the landmark Moyderwell Convent building.
