Question 158: To ask the Minister for Finance, in respect of the directors at each of the credit institutions covered by the bank guarantee, the number of directors in office since before the introduction of the bank guarantee; the name of these Directors; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I would point out, to the Deputy that, contrary to public perception, a lot of changes at director level at the covered institutions have taken place. The Government has sought to bring certainty to the operation of the Irish financial system by making progressive changes at board level and implementing other measures such as changes in the manner that new director appointments are now made. It is not only a change of personnel that is required but a change of culture. The public interest aspect of decisions taken at board level of these institutions has to have a much greater prominence. Based on information supplied to me by the 6 covered institutions, 28 directors representing 38% of those who were in office pre the introduction of the Government Guarantee are still in situ. I do not propose to list the names of those directors. 46 cessations by directors from office (62% of aggregate board strength pre September 2010) have taken place since that time.
