Question 154: To ask the Minister for Health and Children the pay increases awarded to staff at the VHI in the years 2008, 2009 and to date in 2010; the amounts of any increases and the reasons for same; if any pay increases have been awarded to management at the company; the amounts of any such increases and the reasons for same; if any bonuses have been awarded to staff or management at the company in those years; the total amount of any such bonuses and the amounts received by individuals; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Chief Executive Officer of the VHI was appointed on 1 May 2008 on a salary scale of €243,602 - €304,450. This salary scale was revised to €249,693 - €312,061 in September 2008 on foot of the conclusions of Hay Management Consultants on the remuneration of Chief Executives of Commercial State Bodies. No further increases have been applied since.

The Chief Executive Officer of the VHI is entitled to participate in a Performance Related Award Scheme in line with the provisions and principles of the Review Body on Higher Remuneration in the Public Sector. No awards were made to the CEO in respect of 2008 and 2009.

The terms and conditions of employment of other employees of the VHI are a matter for the Board.
